I don’t really like the phrase “practice makes perfect.” Why be perfect when you can be happy?
We often set ourselves up for disappointment by creating these ideal images that we can’t possibly live up to. In yoga, we practice to learn more about ourselves, our habits, and our thought patterns. If you get to a tough pose, feel free to fall out, back out, laugh out- whatever!! Just notice the thoughts running through your mind. Instead of focusing on the frustration of “not being good” at that pose, pause. Thank your body for the strength and ability to play! Focus on the amazing! Create happy, beautiful thoughts of yourself and your body so you have a strong internal support system.
The best way to create a loving, compassionate environment for those around you is to start by creating this for yourself. Let it radiate and then welcome everyone to join.
